About and Rules
A list of New Zealand Police vehicles you can look up by plate. It's run by fans, not by New Zealand Police, and has no connection to them.
What goes on the list
- Marked and part-marked vehicles, the kind anyone can see on the road.
- The plate, the workgroup, the region and the station it's based at, and the car's make, model and year.
What never does
- Unmarked or covert vehicles. The submit form has no option for them and reviewers turn them down.
- VINs, owners, drivers, names, or where a vehicle is right now.
How an entry gets here
- Someone with an account adds a plate and says where it belongs.
- A reviewer checks it. They can fix details, or turn it down with a reason.
- When the reviewer approves it, the car's make, model and year are looked up once and saved with the entry.
- Only then does it appear in search.
Where the car details come from
There's no free public lookup for NZ plates. NZTA doesn't offer one, so vehicle details come from CarJam's paid API, and only when a reviewer asks for them. Otherwise the reviewer types them in, and the entry says so.
Something wrong, or shouldn't be here?
Every public entry has a Report This Entry link. Reports go to a reviewer, who can take the entry down. If you work for the Police and want a vehicle removed, use it and say so.
